Maintaining Integrity and Security in a Data Migration.

Maintaining Integrity and Security in a Data Migration by; Ashish Nadkarin

Moving data from one information source to another can be a complicated experience, but there are three step you can follow to try to ensure that the transfer is more effective. As older computers become obsolete it is necessary to be able to move your information. Maintaining Integrity and Security in a Data Migration written by Ashish Nadkarin offers some insight to what is important in the migration of files. Mr. Nadkarin comments that integrity and security are very important when moving your data because of the application process. He states that integrity needs to be kept to insure the use of files so that they are not only assessable but also concise for the use of files that will be opened.

Also. data security is important so that the files your downloading will be able to run effectively and the security of your information is not compromised.
Mr. Nadkarin comments that each piece of information needs to be down loaned to enable and ensure that the information is use able and retrievable. He comments in his article that it is a good idea to look into buying software for the process. And that you also have everything backed up in case something goes wrong so that you will have not lost all your information.

In this new information world it is necessary to be able to move your data from one data base to another. I learned from reading this is that moving your information form your computer can be a hard thing if you don't understand how to do it. I did not think to much about the importance of having your information saved or moving it as anything big but it is: being able to retrieve the information is a big part of using it. I am always deleting everything on my computer and lately I learned to save my information before I start to delete it. This was my reason for writing this article to show how important it is to know more than the basics of loading new data and removing it.

In another law suit that was filed on Wednesday by the NEW York Attorney General the company will be sued for billions because of unfair practice like, making other companies use their logo and bribes.

In our class we have learned of the importance of patent laws and why it is so important to abide by them If everyone just has a free for all then no one will want to do things or make thing because their will not be an innovative to. Money and technology are two important things that go hand in hand.

These laws are used to not only give others monies but also for recognition. Like writing a book and someone taking parts of it for theirs or someone claiming to have written it. There are other examples but I think one of the pictures is that we should be able to trust companies and take the high road but not now a days.

The Infodiet: How Libraries Can Offer an Appetizing Alternative to Google. By, Bell, Steven J.. Chronicle of Higher Education, 2/20/2004, vol. 50 Issue 24, pb15-15, 1p,1color; (an 12446581)

The author of this article comments that we have forgotten the library and others that work there. He comments that we as students are on the fast track. We want our information easy and quick. That we are use to finding our information using google and that its information might be quick but the information that we read on-line is not as good as the information that a library would have to offer.

Mr. Morris the Dean of students comments that he believe that google is one of the reasons why students turn in poor work. Because the research is done on the web using google and other resources that are not as efficient as what the library offers. He also commented that they are many ways to look for resources that you need in the library and one such way is using an aggregate, which will help you narrow down your search. He comments that he believes that the use of an aggregate might be difficult at first but students should have to learn to use these ways and that teachers should make the effort to make sure their students use the library for their information.

The author of this article written by. Mr. Bell comments that there is a new project that some Universities are working on called Red Light Green Light. This project will offer different ways of putting information together to make it easier for both student and librarians to find.

I feel that google might be easier in the short term but the information is hard to figure out. I have tried using both and the library offers more of the specific information that is needed instead hunting and pecking.

In conclusion, it is faster and easier to use google but in the long term is not as effective in researching the information we need as students to turn well informed research paper in.

Second Life

www.secondlife.com

October 3, 2009

Second Life is a virtual world in 3D. This is a game for everyone. This web site is really neat. The web site offers stuff for teens to chat and adults. It is very interactive and has many options such as: You make your own person the way you see yourself. You have many options for a body, fat, tall, thin, muscles, and or body art such as tattoos. However you want to see yourself that is what you get. Next, you can be married or not. You can also change your gender as well as your looks.

This site is helpful for working people who have meeting and want to become better at their job. They encourage companies to join up so that their workers will be more productive. They offer chances to find work so that you buy things on the site such as: clothes and land. There are job offers that you can apply for like modeling or working for a company. Also, people give you free gifts such as jewels and or land.

On second life you will be able to talk with land lords about renting and buying land as well as buying land for a church. You can collect money for your cause and give money to whom ever you want. Also, make an expenses account to figure where your money is going. Second life also offer help with dealing with neighbors’ and some land owners have convents that you must follow or will be forced to move. If you would like to build a home second life lets you know where to build and how big it can be.

You may chose your own graphics preferences as well as customizing you’re groups that you would like to join. Talking about groups there are many types of groups such as: a group for the grieving, groups for the abused to just name a few.

Second life also offers chat for both adults and teenagers to talk with each other and enjoy many different friendship with whom ever. You can pretend what ever you want that fits your imagination. While your flying around the room their will be others who are doing the same thing. People will stop and talk to you and ask questions and say hi. You can travel where ever you like and buy a pet if you want. There are a lot of things you can do in this web site second life. But and I guess you knew there would be one.

The site also offers things for academics use such as Wikiapeda which I do not have much knowledge about because: I was not really interested in it because I felt their were to many issues dealing with second life.

On the other side, I feel this site is dangerous. Teens can talk to anyone and make up their own birth dates. There are free to meet whom ever is on this web site. Adults to, this can be a web site that’s not only abusive but dangerous. You must watch who you talk with and who you buy land from. On the site it self they say be aware of scammers looking out to sell land they don’t own. You also must be aware of whom you work for and are dealing with. The men on the site talk like a pig, asking you for sex and were will that lead for teens that are inexperienced with the sweet talk of pedophiles‘.

From my experience with this web site, I was afraid that some thing would happen to my person on the site because you are around a bunch of crazy looking people. Like men offering to have sex and others wanting you to join their church. Men giving you gifts and land. I think we should be aware of things like this on the Internet and not be so trusting.

"Can Wikipeda Ever Make the Grade?" Chronicle of Higher Education

By Read, Brook. 00095982 10/27/2006, vol.53, Issue 10.

Academic Search Premierce UNCW Library

Check Spelling

When assistant professor Mr. Halavis was working at a college in Buffalo, New York, he went on the web site Wikipeda (Wiki) and decide to try and put some mistakes on it to see what would happen. Wiki is an encyclopedia that is well know an the Internet for getting information on many subjects. The site has been condemned by may academics for giving people false information. People have said that anyone can go on line and change what ever is said on this site; so teachers refuse to allow its use.

After Mr. Halavis, went on the site and changed or add information he waited to see what happen. To his surprise he was contacted after a few hours by someone working with Wikipeda asking him to please not change the information on the site. After that Mr. Halavis commented that he felt better about the site and certain that someone.

Michael Gorman the past president of the American Library Association commented that anyone could add something on the site and indeed it has happen before. He commented that there are many other ways to find information.

In the article WIki spokes person commented that maybe so many professors did not like this source because they are not the main contributors to the web site. Wikipeda feels that not only academic people know about subjects but also the lay person as well. Their view on this is that everyone from teenagers to hard working people know other things and are more apt to explain it to a lay person such as you and me.

I feel that Wiki is correct because we all have a wealth of knowledge as we grow and learn everyday. Wiki commented that they know there has been some problems in the past but that they are doing their best to watch what goes up on the web site. Although they (Wikipeda) uses people they have picked from their club, they also do use information from professors too.

As we learn more about the web our information resources will grow more and more information and knowledge will be known to all of us.

The Future of Libraries, by Thomas Frey

Thomas Frey, Blog Futurist

9/22/2009

Libraries first began with the art of Leonardo da Vinic in 1519. With his many collection of art drawing but it took sentries for the everyone to think about these collections. People always take for gradated the things libraries do. But if it were not for libraries the are of Leonardo da Vinic would not have been recover. Which kept all his things safe and ready for public view.

Many hundreds of years ago libraries were use to save many important documents raging from the Bible and other manuscripts. John Gutenberg was one of the first to use his printing press for many publications and he financed it himself. Today Libraries carry the most collections of Book and Manuscript not to forget they are the safe keeper of many things.

Today libraries are changing you can use them to find many different things and also use the Internet. Not just at the library but also on your home computer. But where does this technology end with the library or with the Internet? There are so many way now Days to retrieve your information, Which includes the Internet via the phone or you TV. Eventually things will changing and new technology will make thing easier and cheaper for the users of technology.

The author commented that we will reach our limit with technology but I do not agree with this, in fact the more we evolve as people the more we learn and can change the out come of everything. There will be more out cry for more information and we will continue to look for more information. Where will that leave libraries in the future? I believe that is hard to say because as we learn there is more innovative way of storing information and using our libraries.

I believe that libraries will always exist but will look different in the near future.

Annotated Bibliography

Banned Books

My reason for wanting to do the Banned Books project is because being censored is against our American ways of life it it against the freedom acts of this great USA.
In September the American Library Association (ALA) celebrates the Freedom to read act since 1982. Although I feel that in schools there should be a limit to what our young children have access to reading within their age.

Banning books is also a treat to our freedom to chose what we would or would not read. Books are challenged by either the news papers or by a report from anyone. Their is a way which is by form of letting people know that you are interested in Banning a book.

My reason for wanting this project is tho inform others of who does this and the why. There are many books that are on the list at the American Library Association (ALA); one such book is To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee. Which shows us how our country was not so free at one time.

The reason for this report would be to help others understand the reasoning behind banning books and who it effects. Also learning about our Freedom of speech and understanding or rights as Americans to read and not be censored.

Three men are charged with sexually abusing children in Cambodia.
These men were also charged in the USA for simular crimes. Child molestors are treaveling more often over sea to exploit young children. Where they know its easier to get away with such crimes. The human rights organization are trying thier best to protect children everywhere.
We all need to work together to help our children to be able to live their childhood free from being exploited and used by Adults. It is not fair that their childhood should be lost.
I feel these men should have to go to jail there where the crimes were done. That will be a really good deterent for people commiting crimes against others.
