When assistant professor Mr. Halavis was working at a college in Buffalo, New York, he went on the web site Wikipeda (Wiki) and decide to try and put some mistakes on it to see what would happen. Wiki is an encyclopedia that is well know an the Internet for getting information on many subjects. The site has been condemned by may academics for giving people false information. People have said that anyone can go on line and change what ever is said on this site; so teachers refuse to allow its use.

After Mr. Halavis, went on the site and changed or add information he waited to see what happen. To his surprise he was contacted after a few hours by someone working with Wikipeda asking him to please not change the information on the site. After that Mr. Halavis commented that he felt better about the site and certain that someone.

Michael Gorman the past president of the American Library Association commented that anyone could add something on the site and indeed it has happen before. He commented that there are many other ways to find information.

In the article WIki spokes person commented that maybe so many professors did not like this source because they are not the main contributors to the web site. Wikipeda feels that not only academic people know about subjects but also the lay person as well. Their view on this is that everyone from teenagers to hard working people know other things and are more apt to explain it to a lay person such as you and me.

I feel that Wiki is correct because we all have a wealth of knowledge as we grow and learn everyday. Wiki commented that they know there has been some problems in the past but that they are doing their best to watch what goes up on the web site. Although they (Wikipeda) uses people they have picked from their club, they also do use information from professors too.

As we learn more about the web our information resources will grow more and more information and knowledge will be known to all of us.

Reading Report # 3

The Future of Libraries, by Thomas Frey

Thomas Frey, Blog Futurist

9/22/2009

Libraries first began with the art of Leonardo da Vinic in 1519. With his many collection of art drawing but it took sentries for the everyone to think about these collections. People always take for gradated the things libraries do. But if it were not for libraries the are of Leonardo da Vinic would not have been recover. Which kept all his things safe and ready for public view.

Many hundreds of years ago libraries were use to save many important documents raging from the Bible and other manuscripts. John Gutenberg was one of the first to use his printing press for many publications and he financed it himself. Today Libraries carry the most collections of Book and Manuscript not to forget they are the safe keeper of many things.

Today libraries are changing you can use them to find many different things and also use the Internet. Not just at the library but also on your home computer. But where does this technology end with the library or with the Internet? There are so many way now Days to retrieve your information, Which includes the Internet via the phone or you TV. Eventually things will changing and new technology will make thing easier and cheaper for the users of technology.

The author commented that we will reach our limit with technology but I do not agree with this, in fact the more we evolve as people the more we learn and can change the out come of everything. There will be more out cry for more information and we will continue to look for more information. Where will that leave libraries in the future? I believe that is hard to say because as we learn there is more innovative way of storing information and using our libraries.

I believe that libraries will always exist but will look different in the near future.

Annotated Bibliography

Banned Books

My reason for wanting to do the Banned Books project is because being censored is against our American ways of life it it against the freedom acts of this great USA.
In September the American Library Association (ALA) celebrates the Freedom to read act since 1982. Although I feel that in schools there should be a limit to what our young children have access to reading within their age.

Banning books is also a treat to our freedom to chose what we would or would not read. Books are challenged by either the news papers or by a report from anyone. Their is a way which is by form of letting people know that you are interested in Banning a book.

My reason for wanting this project is tho inform others of who does this and the why. There are many books that are on the list at the American Library Association (ALA); one such book is To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee. Which shows us how our country was not so free at one time.

The reason for this report would be to help others understand the reasoning behind banning books and who it effects. Also learning about our Freedom of speech and understanding or rights as Americans to read and not be censored.

Three men are charged with sexually abusing children in Cambodia.
These men were also charged in the USA for simular crimes. Child molestors are treaveling more often over sea to exploit young children. Where they know its easier to get away with such crimes. The human rights organization are trying thier best to protect children everywhere.
We all need to work together to help our children to be able to live their childhood free from being exploited and used by Adults. It is not fair that their childhood should be lost.
I feel these men should have to go to jail there where the crimes were done. That will be a really good deterent for people commiting crimes against others.
